XCOM Enemy Unknown - Elite Edition App Reviews

I purchased this version and the one for iOS. I use the one on iOS exclusively because of the mouse problems I encountered with the Mac version. And it’s been two years now, so I presume they plan to never fix it. Buyer beware. To be specific, you can’t move the mouse to the edge of the screen and scroll without the screen flashing way beyond where you meant to go. As this is a primary use case for this game, you will be forever and a day trying to position the target zone over an enemy. I gave up and removed this software from my Mac after the first 1.5 years when I realized no fix was forthcoming. GREAT GAME - just not the Mac version.

I have a brand-new iMac Retina with a fully updated El Capitan, and this game crashes on opening every single time. How about an update / bug fix (or a refund)?

I love this game. I played the old-school XCOM way back in the day, I bought the console release, and rebought this for my Mac. It’s replayable, it’s fun, and I’m super excited for XCOM 2. That being said, I was really excited to download the Enemy within DLC, because I bought the console version before that came out. So it’s all new to me. Seems really cool. Except it keeps crashing. Again and again. Initially, I couldn’t even open XCOM and get it to go to the initial main page. Crashed trying to open the game after I downloaded the new content. I’ve already beat this game on my Mac multiple times, and have had no issues prior. So then I finally got it to work, and it crashed just a few missions in, when I tried to use MELD upgrades in the genetics lab. Clearly, these are all issues related to the new downloadable content. I don’t know if anyone else is having these issues, but it’s made the game unplayable for me now, because I can’t even get it to open…and when I do, it crashes after just a few missions. FIX THIS. This game is way too good to have simple screw ups like this. The DLC aside, I’d give this game 5 stars. With the DLC that essentially broke the entire game for me….1 star.

Played well on 10.10. Upgraded to 10.11 and then got DLC. Now crashes each and every time the program loads. This happens on a Mac Pro and brand new MBP Retina.

Played the PC version and was hoping to recapture a bit of the magic, unfortunately, the app crashes when launched. No fix for El Cap OS yet.

Love this game. The only issue is when apple puts out a new Operating System. I would highly recommend getting the add on for this as it enhances the fun. For those that already have it and found it crashing since the upgrade to El Capitan I guess there is some issue with Game Center. For me I had to log out of game center to get it to load and work. Otherwise, there seems to be no issue. As for this game being repayable…YES. Once you unlock second wave you can customize the game to make it a bit more difficult, fun and definately frustrating at times. As we all know…the computer cheats.

this version of the game is obviously broken and looks like its not compatible with latest macs and osx. last update was in 2013. why is it even on sale here?

This is the best game ever for me, I played probably 15 years ago when graphics were terrible. This one looks great, very fun! The only problem is that is full of bugs … Once in a while the maps go crazy and your soldiers look like they are flying … it can mess up a game … Also, decided to buy expansion, even with my excellent internet, is taking so far 2 days and I just got 1/4 of it ….. no answer from developer yet ..

The game kept crashing on startup before reaching the initial splash page. The crash log indicated an issue originating in ‘DNSServiceProcessResult’. I completely disabled internet acess on my computer and it proceeded to start up fine. It appears the problem was originating when the game was attempting to connect to Game Center. Re-enabling internet access while playing the game still appears to cause it to immediately crash. Alternatively, logging out of Game Center appeared to also fix the problem. Notably, my internet connect is otherwise working fine outside of the issue occurring with XCOM.

Very simple, everytime i try to open the game, it starts to open, then proceeds to crash. Every single time. The game functioned great the last time I tried playing it, which was probably about 6 months ago. Since that time it just died. I deleted it and re-downlaoded and re-installed it, all of which did absolutely nothing.

Just trying to get this downloaded and properly installed has been a nightmare. I cannot believe how big of a joke this has been. I don’t know if it’s with the app or with Apple, but it is appalling how such a highly regarded game and the “top of the line in electronics” company, Apple, struggle so badly to just get a game downloaded and installed without corrupting itself or freezing upon download. It’s an absolute joke.
